Summer Starts For Líle (Pets)

We used to have a wading pool, which was primarily used for Hagar during nice weather. Once I dug in Hagar's pond NDM decided to give it away since the dogs weren't very excited by it. But Líle being part Labrador, she had her dad pick up another pool, and it has paid off big-time in sopping wet puppies running around inside our house.
Luckily, she only has enough energy to paint our floors with 8 to 10 gallons of water per day. Here she is recharging by her frog.

Molpe 2007 Kill #11 (Pets)

Probably the last grisly trophy of the year, since the dog door isn't going to have many more balmy days. Molpe brought this shrew inside this morning, and I was lucky enough to stumble upon it before any other household denizens. Hagar had it for a late lunch.

Molpe 2007 Kill #9 (Pets)

It looks like Mag is going to be photographed with most of Molpe's kills from now on. She was happily playing with this shrew when I clued in to what was going on; I'm afraid the shrew was no longer in pristine photographing condition when I recovered it. Luckily, this will almost certainly not diminish Hagar's enjoyment.

Home Invasion (Pets)

Here's a snapshot of the only four legged member of our household who was smart enough to figure out to use the pet door all by herself. It can really be startling to trip barefoot over an unexpected snapping turtle...

Bad Dog Day (Pets)

'Dolon started out today as cute as ever, and we treated him to a dog park excursion. We keep a wubby in my car for him, and apparently because he only gets to chew it on rides it has become extra special for him. He had a blast at the dog park, but he didn't reward us for our largesse.
'Dolon backslid today, doing almost every horrible thing we've been trying to break him of for the past 6 months. His crowning achievement occurred after we threw him back in the house so we could deal with the injured robin he was trying to eat. What tastes almost just like robin? You guessed it! Freshly baked banana cake on a counter he has never, ever dared go near before. I hope his 15 seconds of bliss was worth where he ended up for the rest of the day!
Hard to believe this is the same dog who is freaked out by our snapping turtle...
Or almost too afraid to get up on the couch with Scylla...
Although I suppose he does have reason to be afraid of Scylla. It is obvious what she is thinking here, and it wouldn't be suitable for posting as an I CAN HAS CHEEZEBURGER? caption. The next photograph has been withheld out of respect for our more squeamish readers.

Molpe 2007 Kill #1 (Pets)

It begins again. Molpe has started out slowly this year, not getting her first kill until her third full day out in the yard -- although surely the weather is partly to blame, which has slowed the small fuzzy prey habitat growth.
It is too bad that she is so indiscriminate, because shrews are nice to have in our garden areas. At least we have a good prey item disposal unit to hand.
