Nina Paley's Film (Recommendation)

Probably my only reader who goes back far enough to remember Nina is GCE. She moved westward where she works in comics and animation, and in fact she's now made a film, Sita Sings the Blues. Its style is pretty far removed from what I think of as "Nina Classic", which shows what a talented artist she is.

Back in the day, I used to hang out with Josh Paley, so I know Nina through him. Of course, "back in the day" refers to the stone age.

Thanks for the tip.

I know her comics, and I know your claims of artistic equinular superiority.

Nina was a fixture at CERL during my entire student-programmer career, since her brother Josh worked as a system programmer and her sister Liz worked as an op. I think she came out with her first cartoon collection around my senior year or so. Her recurring-character heavy metal band, the "Wombats from Hell" (fronted by Slade, the Burning Metal Axe Man, of course) were of course based on the Room 350 crew. Good times!

Whatever happened to the blackboard she did in Brian Larson's office? Just destroyed in the renovation?

I thought someone took the blackboard, but can't remember who. I think I have an original Slade the Burning Metal Axe Man in the folder of stuff I rescued from 350 along with Josh's check to Z for an Eliminator and several illustrations of fun with Cyber machine code. Thanks, Seymour!
